DAAD-Scholarships for Armenia

General Information:

  • Application deadline for all DAAD scholarships is October 31st, 2013, only exception is the scholarship programme "Postgraduate Courses for Professionals with Relevance to Developing Countries".
  • Please read the program information first, making sure you meet all of the eligibility requirements and understand the application instructions before you apply. Only complete application can be considered.
  • Please consult our information leaflet, which tells you how to check your documents for completeness

  • Please sign all copies of application form by hand.
  • Recognized language certificates in German are: TestDaF, DSH, DSD, OnDaF, as well as certificates of the Goethe-Institut (e.g. ZOP, ZMP).
  • Recognized language certificates in English are: TOEFL, IELTS Academic, TOEIC, CPE, CAE, CFE and BEC. Please check university admission requirements.
  • Interviews will be held at the end of January 2014 for applicants in the programmes Study Scholarships for Graduates of all Disciplines and ERP-Scholarships, and applicants for a phd scholarship, interviews have to be attended in person
  • There are no interviews in the programmes University Summer Courses, Study Scholarships for Artists, Research Scholarships and Research Stays.
  • Applicants who want to take the OnDaF test, please register online. Test date for applicants will be in the beginning of November 2013

University Summer Courses offered in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates

These grants are awarded to enable students to attend German language and area studies courses plus special language/terminology courses that are offered by state (public) or state-recognised German higher education institutions and by affiliated language schools. Please note that these scholarships are part-cost grants. Please note that only courses conductet in German can be chosen. Choose your course in the Summer Course Database.

  • Period: 3-4 weeks
  • Specialization: all
  • Target group: Students (2nd, 3rd year BA, 4th year BA if the applicant includes a confirmation by the university that he/she will continue in a MA program in Armenia upon completing the 4th year, 1st MA)

Requirements:

  • Applications are open to students and graduates in Bachelor's and Master's programmes of all subject areas who will have completed at least two academic years of studies at the time of starting their funded stay.
  • Applicants must present proof of good German language skills and must be able to follow lectures and presentations and to collaborate in teams. The required language skills must at least be equivalent to a very good level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Applicants must be registered or matriculated at a university in their home country or in their country of permanent residence (but not Germany).
  • The minimum age at the time of starting the funded stay is 18 years.
  • Neither graduates holding a Master's degree nor PhD students are eligible for application to this programme.
  • An applicant may only be considered once for a DAAD Intensive Language Course or University Summer Course Grant in any three consecutive years.

  8. Language certificate in German or registration for OnDaF; Don't know how to register for the ondaf, here is an easy guide in Armenian, that will answer all your questions.
  9. Three recent photograph, attached to the application form

Collate, but do not staple, each copy of the application in the given order. Use onesided copies in format DinA4 only.

Succesful candidates will have to present a notarised copy of their student book to the DAAD.

Study Visits / Study Seminars and Practicals

The DAAD programme “Study Visits/Study Seminars and Practicals” supports visits to Germany by groups of foreign students headed by a university teacher. The programme aims to provide students with subject-related knowledge by arranging appropriate visits, tours and information meetings (Study Visits) or by organising subject-related seminars and practical courses (e.g. specialist courses, block seminars, workshops) at the invitation of a German university (Study Seminars and Practicals).

Applications must be submitted through the DAAD portal in accordance with the following new deadlines:

  • 1st November for trips starting from 1st March
  • 1st February for trips starting from 1st June
  • 1st May for trips starting from 1st September

Concert trips

The DAAD programme “concert trips” supports visits to Germany by groups of students in order to perform in Germany.

Goals of the programme:

  • Concerts (if possible together with students of the german (partner) university)
  • attainment of subject-based knowledge through visits and consultations in german universities
  • meetings with students, musicians and academics in Germany to establish and maintaining contacts between foreign and german universities

Please note that this scholarship programme is granting 50 € per participant and day. The minimum number of participants is 5 and the maximum number of participants is 50. The maximum number of days is 12.

Applications must be submitted through the DAAD portal at least 3 months prior to the concert trip.

Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines

  • Period: 2-4 semester
  • Specialization: all
  • Target group: Graduates
  • You choose the degree program, you want to study, all degree courses in Germany can be found on www.study-in.de/en
  • tuition fees of up to 500 Euro/semester will be covered by the DAAD if the respective Federal State charges tuition (tuition fees of more than 500 Euro are not covered)
  • scholarships cannot be granted for MA programmes which require more than  3 months/year study abroad

Requirements:

  • University degree. Students in the final year may apply, if they receive their diploma in June 2014
  • English degree programme: very good command of English
  • German degree programme: good command of German
  • Admission to German university at the beginning of the scholarship
  • Candidates living in Germany for more than one year at the beginning of the scholarship cannot apply
  • parallel applications in the programmes study scholarships and ERP are undesired

Language Certificate (German and / or English) or registration for test (Note: Institutional TOEFL will not be accepted), German language skills will be tested with the ondaf (if you do not have another official German language certificate); English language certificates must be presented at the latest at the time of the scholarship interview, in that case please include a registration for the English test with your application
  10. GRE, GMAT, if the chosen university course requires a GRE or GMAT, the respective certificate or the registration for the test must be part of your application. If you are registered for the test, the certificate must be available by the time of the scholarship interview.
  11. 4 recent photographs, attached to the application forms
  12. Documents relating to periods of practical training, if appropriate
  13. List of publications, if any

Study Scholarships for Artists

  • Period: one academic year for non degree programmes, 10-24 months for degree programmes
  • Specialization: Fine Arts, Design, Film, Music, Drama, Dance, Choreography, Architecture
  • Applicants wishing to study Music in Germany can get additional information here

Requirements:

  • As a rule, study scholarships in the fields of fine art, design and film are awarded to applicants who have exhausted the training possibilities in their home country and - as far as possible and as provided for in the study regulations - hold the appropriate degree and are - in case of a positive application and selection - no older than 32 years of age when they begin their scholarship supported studies.
  • Students in the final year may apply, if they receive their diploma in June 2014
  • Letter of acceptance by German university teacher

ERP Study Scholarships for Graduates of Economics and Business Administration

ERP Study Scholarships are sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology to provide foreign graduates of Economics and Business Administration with opportunities to complete a postgraduate or Master's degree course at a German higher education institution and to gain a degree in Germany (Master).

  • Period: 12-24 months
  • Specialization: Economics and Management
  • Target Group : Graduates in Economics and Management

At the following universities the DAAD is able to offer special tutoring by a DAAD tutor for ERP Study Scholarship holders: Fachhochschule Osnabrück, Universität Marburg, Reutlingen University, Universität Trier. Applicants who are willing to do without tutoring by a DAAD tutor are free to choose which German host university they would like to attend.

Requirements:

  • University degree (at least Bachelor). Students in the final year may apply, if they receive their diploma in June 2014.
  • English degree programme: very good command of English
  • German degree programme: good command of German
  • Admission to German university at the beginning of the scholarship. You may simultaneously apply to several host universities for admission to studies. If several admissions letters are received, the DAAD will decide, in agreement with the universities, where the scholarship holder is placed.
  • Candidates living in Germany for more than one year by application cannot apply

Development-Related Postgraduate Courses Educating Professionals for Sustainable Development

  • Target Group: Graduates with at least two years of related professional experience

  • Certificate(s) of Employment from the Employer in the home country including and if possible, a guarantee of re-employment upon returning home
  • Proof of Language Skills: 
       a) English – IELTS or TOEFL (Note: the institutional TOEFL is not accepted) 
       b) German – required for courses taught in German; if available, for courses taught in English
  • Certified copies of acquired University degrees (An Explanation of the university’s grading system has to be attached to all certificates. Copies of certificates must be officaly certified and if possible, DIN A4 or DIN A5.)
  • Certified copies of Transcripts of Grades
  • Certified copy of Secondary School Leaving Certificate/ High School Diploma

*What are official certified copies? It is sufficient if the congruence of the copy and the original document are verified with an official stamp and a signature by one of the following institutions: German Embassy, German consulate, German schools or universities, which have hand over the original certificate. The regularity of translation has to be confirmed. The original certificates are needed for enrollment in Germany.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates, Young Scientists and Academics (please note application procedure has changed)

  • Period: 1-10 months, up to 36 months for doctoral candidates
  • Specialization: all
  • Target group: Doctoral candidates, young scientists and academics

  • Short research grants with a length up to 6 months can be started earliest as of 1 June. Awards with a length more than 7 months can as a rule be started as of 1 October.

Requirements:

  • Master or Diploma degree. Doctoral Candidates: enrolment in “Aspirantura”. Candidates in Medicine: at least 7 years of study and enrolment in “Ordinatura”. Please check additional information for medical studies.
  • MA or BA graduates: degree should be obtained no more than 6 years ago, phd students should have started their phd no longer than three years ago, post docs phd awarded no longer than 2 years ago (in case of a short research stay of 6 months or less: 4 years)
  • Excellent research proposal
  • Letter of acceptance / invitation by German university teacher
  • Good command of German or English
  • Candidates living in Germany for more than one year by application cannot apply

Before application, get in contact to a professor at a German university or research institution that will supervise your work. Send your research schedule to the German professor and ask to provide a statement. You should submit a precise schedule which has been agreed upon by the host institution. Attach copies of correspondance to your application documents. We recommend see the staff at the Information Centre for advice before your application.

Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders

To maintain contact with Germany, former DAAD Research Grant or Study Scholarship holders with funding for more than six months and former DDR (East German) Scholarship holders who studied in Germany for at least one year can apply for a re-invitation. Funding is available for research and working projects at a state or state-recognised (public) university or a non-university research institution. Former scholarship holders working outside the science sector can also apply for funding to cover a working stay at another institution in business or industry, administration, culture or media. The large number of applications received for this programme, however, means that it is generally not possible to consider all applicants.

Requirements:

  • At least three years should have elapsed since the applicants returned from the fellowship in Germany
  • The applicants should have remained in regular scientific contact with their counterparts in Germany
  • The applicants should submit copies of correspondence with their counterparts indicating their willingness to receive them at their institution during the proposed visit. A definite research plan, prepared in consultation with the German counterparts, should be submitted
  • a scholarship can only be obtained once every three years
  • Scholarships can be started on 1 June at the earliest
